Why this exists
Combining VA disability ratings by hand is confusing. Ratings don't simply add up, dependent pay varies by rating and household, and the bilateral factor is easy to miss if you don't know to look for it. MyVetRate exists to do that math for you in a couple of taps, so you can see a combined rating and a monthly payment estimate without digging through regulations or a printed rate table.
How the numbers are calculated
The calculator follows the VA's own combined ratings formula in 38 CFR §4.25, and applies the bilateral factor in 38 CFR §4.26 when you tag ratings to paired limbs. For a full plain-English walkthrough with a worked example, see how VA disability ratings are calculated.
Where the pay figures come from
Monthly compensation figures come directly from VA.gov's published compensation rates, effective December 1, 2025. The same numbers power the calculator and the full pay chart, so they can't drift out of sync with each other, and they're updated each year when the VA's rates change.
